    • Movement of Grinding Bodies: The main body of a ball mill is a horizontally placed, low-speed rotating cylinder supported by two large bearings. Inside the cylinder, there are grinding media, usually steel balls, and sometimes steel columns, steel bars, or pebbles c also be used. When the ball mill rotates, the grinding media adhere to the lining plate on the inner wall of the cylinder under the action of inertial centrifugal force. They rotate with the cylinder and are carried to a certain height, and then fall freely under the action of gravity. Like projectiles, they crush the materials in the cylinder.
    • Material Grinding: During the rotation of the cylinder, the grinding media also slide and roll, causing a grinding action among the grinding media, the lining plate, and the materials, thus grinding the materials finer. Meanwhile, due to the continuous forced feeding at the feeding end and the height difference of the material surface between the feeding end and the discharging end, the materials slowly flow from the feeding end to the discharging end to complete the grinding operation.
  • Mechanical Structure
    • Feeding Part: It is responsible for evenly feeding the materials to be ground into the cylinder of the ball mill. It usually includes a feed inlet, a feed hopper, and devices to control the feeding speed.
    • Discharging Part: Its main function is to discharge the ground materials from the cylinder. It consists of components such as a discharge port and a discharge hopper. Some are also equipped with a screening device to conduct a preliminary screening of the discharged materials.
    • Rotating Part: It is the core part of the ball mill, consisting of the cylinder, lining plate, grinding media, etc. The cylinder is generally welded by steel plates and closed at both ends by end covers. The inner wall of the cylinder is inlaid with wear-resistant lining plates to protect the cylinder and enhance the grinding effect. The grinding media are the key media for grinding materials.
    • Driving Part: It is composed of a reduction gear, a small driving gear, an electric motor, and an electric control system. The electric motor drives the large gear fixed on the cylinder shell through the reduction gear and the small driving gear, enabling the cylinder to rotate and providing power for the operation of the ball mill.
  • Classification Methods
    • According to Cylinder Shape: The short cylinder ball mill has a length-to-diameter ratio of the cylinder between 1 and 2; the tube ball mill has a length-to-diameter ratio between 2 and 7; the conical ball mill has a length-to-diameter ratio between 0.25 and 1.0.
    • According to Operation Mode: The batch ball mill is suitable for the grinding of small-batch and multi-variety materials and can be started and stopped at any time as needed; the continuous ball mill can achieve continuous feeding and discharging of materials with high production efficiency, and can be further divided into open-circuit ball mill, circulating (closed-circuit) ball mill, and air-swept ball mill.
    • According to Discharging Mode: The central discharging ball mill includes the overflow ball mill and the grate ball mill; the peripheral discharging ball mill discharges materials from the discharge port around the cylinder; the intermediate discharging ball mill is equipped with a discharge port in the middle of the cylinder.
